86olds7SUBJECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER MAY NOT HOLD NUMBER: 87-C-01
DATE: Sept. 18, 1986
MODELS/YEARS 1987 FIRENZA MODELS SECTION: 5
CONDITION
General Motors has determined that certain 1987 Oldsmobile Firenza models fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)105: "Hydraulic Brake Systems.. These vehicles might have been assembled with parking brake lever mechanisms which will not properly engage when applied.
In some of these vehicles, the parking brake can be applied and appear to be properly engaged and later, when the vehicle is unattended, it could disengage. If the transmission were neither in gear (manual transmission) nor in Park (automatic transmission) the vehicle could unexpectedly roll. In such an instance the vehicle might roll away uncontrolled, which could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the parking brake lever assembly as outlined in the service procedure section of this bulletin.
