This bulletin updates Dealer Technical Bulletin 87-T-04 which announced an exchange program for the HM-282 Muncie 5-speed manual transaxle (RPO MG2). That exchange program will end on December 31, 1987 and dealers will be required to overhaul these units. Four items must be completed before attempting to repair these transaxles. These four items are listed below:

1. Product Service Training:

HM 282 5-Speed Manual Transaxle Course number 17004.04 (1 day class)

This course is a High Priority Training Program and is mandatory for all Oldsmobile dealers.

Also, a video tape "refresher" will be available from Kent-Moore November 1, 1987.

2. Essential Service Tools From Kent-Moore:

All essential tools were shipped in late October 1987

IMPORTANT: A small (toaster) oven is required to service these units but is not listed as an essential tool and will not be included in the essential tool package. The oven is used to prevent part damage during assembly. Dealerships should obtain an oven before attempting to service these transaxles.

3. Service Parts/Overhaul Packages:

The service parts/overhaul packages will be available through GMSPO after November 1, 1987.

4. Service Manuals:

1987 Service Manuals contain the repair and overhaul information for the HM-282 5-speed. Although there are some slight differences between 1987 and 1988 transaxles, most of the 1987 service information will apply to 1988 models. Changes for 1988 models will be covered in the Product Service Training course and will also be included the 1988 Chassis Service Manual for Firenza and Cutlass Calais.
