1987 Calais Models With 2.5L Engine (VIN Code U) and Manual Transaxle 1988 Cutlass Calais Models With 2.5L Engine (VIN Code U) and Automatic or Manual Transaxle 1988 Cutlass Ciera Models With 2.5L Engine (VIN Code R) and Automatic or Manual Transaxle

A revised bolt tightening procedure has been developed to provide a more uniform clamp load on the balancer assembly.

The following procedure supersedes the existing service procedure. Use J 36660 Torque Angle Meter, refer to Figure 1.

1. Snug bolts to 12 N-m (9 ft.lbs.) in the following sequence: 3-1-2-4.

2. Following the same sequence, tighten the short bolts (No. 2 and 1, Figure 1) to 20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.) plus 60~ and the long bolts (No. 3 and 4, Figure 1) to 15 N-m (11 ft.lbs.) plus 90~.
