Loss of drive and/or reverse on a 1984 to 1987 vehicle that has a THM 440-T4 transaxle with normal line pressures may be caused by the input sprag clutch assembly.. This condition may be corrected by installing a new, wider input sprag clutch and related parts.

April 1, 1986 (Julian Date 091), new input sprag clutch assembly used in later 1986 and all 1987 applications. This change is also on all Service Replacement Transmission Assembly (SRTA) models effective May 1, 1986 (Julian Date 121). (Figure 1)

Remove and dissassemble the transaxle. Check the input sprag (Figure 2).
