Compensator Assembly

This assembly regulates the amount of vacuum applied to the vacuum motor by venting the engine vacuum supply. The engine vacuum supply is vented by movement of a bi-metal sensor coil located in the compensator. This sensor reacts to the temperature of the in-car air passing over it.

The in-car air sample from the top of the instrument panel is drawn into the compensator by a venturi effect, caused by a small amount of air being forced through a separate passage in the compensator by the blower motor.

When the control panel temperature lever is moved, the temperature control cable positions the control lever and compensator link. This changes the sensor coil tension to provide control of comfort level at the selected temperature lever position.
