Rear Brakes - Clunk Noise
84olds3SUBJECT REAR BRAKE SHOE SLAP NUMBER: 84-T-8
DATE: February 9, 1984
MODELS/YEARS 1984 CUTLASS CIERA,
OMEGA AND FIRENZA SECTION: 5
On some 1984 Cutlass Ciera, Omega and Firenza models, there may be an audible repeated "clunk" in the rear brakes during light brake pedal pressure. The possible cause for this "clunk" may be the slight in and out movement of the rear brake shoes. This movement may be caused by a "screw" type machined inner brake drum surface. Technicians should check for this condition during the new vehicle inspection road test. Both rear drums should be turned approximately .005" on a brake lathe to correct this condition prior to delivery of the vehicle.
