This bulletin contains revised partial engine and 1 gasket kit part numbers and replaces Dealer Technical Bulletin 84-T-27A, which should be discarded.
CONDITION
Some 1984 Omega and Cutlass Ciera models equipped with a 2.5L L-4 engine (VIN Code R) may experience cracks in the cylinder block casting between the valve lifter cavity and the water jacket, resulting in a loss of engine coolant and subsequent engine failure.

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT
Should the engine block crack due to the conditions identified in this Special Policy bulletin, General Motors will replace the partial engine, part number 10081914 and the following associated parts.
Camshaft Transmission insert
pilot bushing
Cam gear Oil filter
Crank gear Engine oil
Lifters Engine coolant
Gaskets
This Special Policy covers both parts and labor for a period of five (5) years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service.
This "Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin" and a copy of Dealer Management Bulletin 84-1-32 should be filed in the 3-ring binder furnished to the dealer by General Motors.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Pressure test for evidence of coolant loss.

2. If presure test shows no visible evidence of coolant loss, remove cover from valve lifter area and inspect casting above lifter cavity (see Figure 1).
3. With engine warm and pressure applied, coolant should be visible using a "black light".
4. If condition is evident, cylinder block and associated parts identified in this bulletin should be replaced as required using applicable replacement procedures referenced in Section 6A of the 1984 Firenza, Omega, Cutlass Ciera and Cutlass Cruiser Service Manual. To prevent camshaft lobe and valve lifter scuffing, coat lifters and camshaft lobes with GM Engine Oil Supplement, part number 1052367 during assembly.
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts are to be obtained from the General Motors Service Part Organization (GMSPO).
These parts, when required should be ordered from GMSPO on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code, but order on an advise code (2).
NOTE: The crankshaft may have a reluctor ring. This will not affect the operation of the engine and may be used in this application.
WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
When performing repairs as described in the Service Procedure of this bulletin, submit warranty claim for credit as follows. Zone authorization will be required.
REIMBURSEMENT
Claims for customer reimbursement of previously paid repairs are to be submitted using Labor Operation T4088 and Trouble Code 92. Total reimbursement amount requested should be shown in the sublet column. Do not list parts or labor. Zone authorization will be required.
