Dear Oldsmobile Owner:
General Motors has determined that some early built 1984 Cutlass Ciera, Cutlass Supreme, Custom Cruiser Wagon, 88, 98 and Toronado models with a V-6 or V-8 diesel engine may have been manufactured incorrectly and therefore may not comply with exhaust emission standards.
The vehicles involved may have been manufactured with one or two of (4) four different conditions which may cause the vehicle not to comply with exhaust emission standards.
To correct these conditions your dealer will make the necessary electrical system or vacuum system corrections to your vehicle. This service will be performed at no charge to you.
Instructions for making the correction(s) have been sent to your dealer. The labor time to perform this service is approximately ten minutes. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.
The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the inspection to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid Owner Identification Reply Card and returning it to us so that we may update our records. Should your dealer not schedule a service date within a reasonable time, you should contact your nearest Oldsmobile Zone Office either in person or by telephone for assistance. The locations and telephone numbers for zone offices are listed in your Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet.
If your dealer or General Motors are unable to remedy this condition within a reasonable time. you may wish to advise the Environmental Protection Agency, at the following address: Director, Manufacturers Operation Division (EN-340), United States Environmental Protection Agency, 401 M Street, S.W.
