FLOOR PAN VIBRATION - 1983 CUTLASS CIERA EQUIPPED WITH A 3.0L V-6 ENGINE
DATE: December 6, 1982
CONDITION
Some 1983 Cutlass Cieras, equipped with a 3.0L V-6 engine, may experience a vibration and moan in the floor pan.. This condition which occurs at approximately 1900 RPM, may be caused by the air injection line to the catalytic converter contacting the underbody.
FIGURE 1:
CORRECTION
1. Hoist the car and remove screw attaching the catalytic converter air injection line to the floor pan and heat shield. Cut off mounting tab from the air injection line. (See fig. 1.)
2. Loosen the hose clamp and separate the air injection line from the air hose. Cut 1/2 in. off the hose and reinstall over the air line. Tighten the hose clamp.
3. Modify the new clip, part no. 25515259, as shown in fig. 1, view B. Install one (1) grommet, part no. 10016079, and the new clip over the air line (refer to fig. 1, view A) and position as close to the air hose as possible. Reinstall screw, securing the clip to the floor pan and heat shield. (It may be necessary to bend the tab on the floor pan and heat shield to gain sufficient clearance.)
FIGURE 2:
After installation, check for clearance between the air line and underbody, and the air hose and exhaust pipe.
4. Using two (2) straps, part no. 3816659, secure two (2) grommets, part no. 10016079, to the air pipe at the location shown in Fig. 2.
