Water Pump: Service and Repair

Fan And Fan Clutch Installation:

Removal

1. Drain radiator.

2. Disconnect lower radiator hose at water pump.

3. Disconnect heater hose and by-pass hose at water pump, if applicable.

4. Remove fan assembly and spacer bolts. On A/C or HD cooling equipped cars, remove fan and clutch assembly nuts.

5. Remove all pulley belts.

6. Remove water pump pulley.

7. Disconnect alternator, A/C compressor and P/S brackets, if applicable.

8. Remove water pump attaching bolts and remove water pump.

Installation

1. Transfer studs to new water pump, if applicable.

2. Clean gasket material from engine block.

3. Apply a thin coat of 1050026 sealer or equivalent to the water pump housing to retain the gasket, then position new gasket on the housing. Also apply sealer to water pump mounting bolts. Torque bolts.

4. Install water pump and water pump attaching bolts

5. Connect alternator, A/C compressor and P/S brackets, if applicable.

6. Install water pump pulley.

7. Install all pulley belts.

8. Install fan assembly and spacer bolts. On A/C or HD cooling equipped cars, install fan and clutch assembly.

9. Connect heater hose and by-pass hose at water pump, if applicable

10. Connect lower radiator hose at water pump.

11. Adjust all belts for proper tension.

12. Refill cooling system and check for leaks.
