SERVICE INFORMATION

If an engine, transmission, or suspension member (front engine cradle/sub frame) on an Applied Vehicle needs to be removed or replaced for any reason, use the special tools and procedures listed below. All three of the tools below are designed for universal use, so they can be used for other models as well.

NOTE:

OTC # 1724 3 Point Transverse Engine Support Bar

^ Supports the engine while the front sub frame is removed for transaxle, clutch, oil pan service, etc.

^ Recommended use is with the proper "Slingers" as shown in the 2002 Altima ESM; QR25DE refer to page EM-65.

VQ35DE refer to page EM-186.

NOTE:
The part numbers for these "Slingers" are listed in the Parts Information section of this Bulletin.





CAUTION:
Place the two side supports on the inner edge, just inside the lip of the front fenders, with the 3rd leg resting on the radiator core support (see details in Figure 1).

OTC # 16-1585 Powertrain Lift

^ This is a rolling, air-over-hydraulic scissors-type lift. It can raise and lower the sub-frame or engine assembly in and out from underneath the vehicle.

^ Dealer price $2,062.50 (listed in the Tech-Mate 2002 Service Equipment Catalog on page 5-25).

Kent-Moore J-39580 Engine support table: (Alternative to OTC Powertrain lift above)

^ Table is rolled under the vehicle, the vehicle is lowered down until the sub frame is resting on the table.

^ Spring loaded pins in the table fit into holes in the front of the sub frame for stability. After removing the last sub frame bolts, the vehicle is raised up off of the table leaving the sub frame behind.

NOTE:
The J-39580 should be used with the spring loaded pins towards the front of the vehicle and the nuts installed on the bottom side of the support arms (see Figure 3)
