Sentra Service Procedure

CAUTION:
Do not perform these procedures while smoking, near any open flame, electrical contacts or other potential source of Ignition.

1. Release fuel pressure using work support in CONSULT.

OR

A. Remove fuse for fuel pump..
B. Start engine.
C. After engine stops, crank engine two or three times to make sure that fuel pressure is released.
D. Turn ignition switch off and install fuse for fuel pump.

2. Remove rear seat bottom.

3. Remove Inspection hole cover.

CAUTION:
Use rubber gloves to prevent fuel from contacting the skin when removing the fuel hoses and pump.

4. Disconnect electrical connector and fuel hoses.

5. Remove the six screws.

CAUTION:
The edges of the fuel tank opening may be sharp. Use care when working near the tank opening.

6. Remove fuel gauge sending unit and disconnect the fuel hoses and connector.





7. Remove fuel pump from fuel pump bracket by pinching the tab and lifting the pump out of fuel tank bracket (Figure 3).

8. Examine the Fuel Pump to determine if it is a JECS Fuel Pump or a BOSCH Fuel Pump:
^ JECS Fuel Pump=Its body is gold anodized and the manufacturer, "JECS", is embossed on its end cap.

^ BOSCH Fuel Pump=Its body is aluminum in color and the manufacturer, "BOSCH" is embossed on its end cap.

9 a. If the Fuel Pump is a JECS type, do not replace it. Proceed to Step 10.

b. If the Fuel Pump is a BOSCH type, remove it and replace it with a new, countermeasure BOSCH Fuel Pump, P/N 17042-Q5601BC.

NOTE:
Please be advised that the lower fuel pump bracket for the BOSCH Fuel Pump is not available as a spare part. If the lower fuel pump bracket for the BOSCH Fuel Pump is broken or otherwise damaged, you must replace it with the lower fuel pump bracket for the JECS Fuel Pump, P/N 17014-53J00.

10. Installation procedure is the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION:
^ Always replace fuel tank O-ring with a new one.
^ Tighten screws to specified torque 2.4-3.1 ft.lbs..
^ After installation, run engine and check for leaks at connections.
