INSTRUMENT VOLTAGE REGULATOR REPLACEMENT

SERVICE INFORMATION

The wire length on some service replacement Instrument Voltage Regulators for 1989 Sentra vehicles may be too short to reach their intended mounting location. This bulletin gives a procedure to establish approved alternative mounting locations for the affected wires on these replacement regulator assemblies.

REPLACEMENT NOTE:
Only KANTO SEIKI regulators are installed at the factory. However, in addition to KANTO SEIKI, NILES regulators are also used as service replacement assemblies. Please note that these two different assemblies are easy to tell apart. The NILES regulator has fins and is painted black. The KANTO SEIKI regulator is a flat part with no fins, and is not painted.

The NILES and KANTO SEIKI parts are functionally interchangeable. However, the NILES parts have shorter wires than the KANTO SEIKI parts. When installing a NILES regulator on 1989 Sentras, use the alternate wire mounting location shown.

The KANTO SEIKI voltage regulator does not have any application limitations.

NOTE:
The July, 1988 (05) printing of the 1989 Sentra Service Manual only shows the NILES type connection location for these wires on models without tachometers. Figure 2 shows both types of connection locations for these models. Please make note of this bulletin on pages EL-52 and -53 of your copy of the subject manual.
