Service Procedure

^ Make sure the serial number of the vehicle falls within affected VIN range of Table 1.

^ Use Service Procedure A on page 3/10 for removal and installation of the headlight switch in the Pulsar NX, and Service Procedure B on page 4/10 for the 300ZX.
Service Procedure A - Pulsar NX



NOTE: The headlight switch can be replaced without removing the steering wheel.

1. Remove the steering column covers (upper and lower shells) as shown in Figure 2.



2. Disconnect both wire harness connectors as shown in Figure 3.




3. Remove the two attachment screws on the side of the headlight switch (Figure 3).

4. Remove the headlight switch.

5. Check the lot number on the headlight switch (not the combination base) to determine if switch is to be replaced.

6. If the headlight switch lot number is before 3907A, install a new headlight switch (P/N 25540-17M20).

7. Reinstall components by reversing procedure.

8. Check for proper operation of switch.

Service Procedure B - 300ZX




1. Remove the steering wheel

^ Do not strike end of steering column shaft with a hammer. Striking shaft will damage needle bearing or column shaft.
^ Be careful not to damage cancel pole.
^ After installing, turn wheel to make sure it moves smoothly and that the number of turns from straight forward position to left and right locks are equal.
^ If steering wheel play is not within the specified value, check column shaft and tie-rod ball joint and adjust the play with retainer adjust screw. Refer to "Steering wheel play adjustment".
^ Removal& Installation




2. Remove the steering column covers (upper and lower shells) as shown in Figure 4.






3. Remove the driver side lower cover (Figure 4).

4. Disconnect the eleven prong headlight switch harness connector (black/purple) from rear of headlight switch (Figure 5).
5. Loosen the combination base attaching screw (Figure 5).

6. Remove the two headlight switch attaching screws (Figure 5).



7. Push the combination base toward the instrument panel and rotate to the right slightly. Then pull the combination base away from the instrument panel enough to allow removal of the headlight switch.

8. Disconnect the two-wire harness connector (black/purple) attached to the headlight switch (Figure 6). This connector is located under the dash to the right of the steering column. Remove the headlight switch.



9. Check the lot number on the headlight switch (not the combination base) to determine if switch is to be replaced.

10. If the headlight switch lot number is before 3907A, install a new headlight switch (P/N 25540-01P09).
11. Reinstall components by reversing procedure.

12. Check for proper operation of switch.
