VCM VALVE AND FILTER REPLACEMENT, 1984-1986 SENTRA/PULSAR NX FEDERAL MODEL

^ All 1984-1985 Federal Sentra (E16) and Pulsar NX
^ 1986 Federal Sentra (E16) and Pulsar NX within the VIN range (Japan built) or before the production date (U.S. built).
SERVICE INFORMATION
Technical Bulletin EF85-017 (TS85-144) contained Service Information and procedures for a VCM valve/filter kit (P/N 23770-33M11-U1). This part is no longer available and has been superseded by a new VCM valve/filter kit (P/N 23770-33M10). Use the Parts Information and Service Procedure in this bulletin when replacing the VCM valve on the affected models above.
In addition, a new type VCM filter kit (P/N 23770-33M11) should be used when replacing the filter of the affected models at the scheduled maintenance interval.
PARTS INFORMATION
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the original VCM filter and vacuum switch "A" (Figure 1, step 1) from the bracket on the passenger side strut tower. Then remove and discard the bracket.
2. Install the new VCM filter mounting bracket to the strut tower using the existing mounting holes (Figure 2, Step 2).
3. Remove vacuum switch "B" and harness connector "A" from the mounting bracket on the front side of the strut tower (Figure 1, Step 3). Remove and discard the bracket.
4. Install the new vacuum switch mounting bracket to the front side of the strut tower using the existing mounting holes (Figure 2, Step 4).
5. Mount the new harness connector bracket to the inner fender panel using the existing mounting holes (Figure 2, Step 5).
6. Remove the hoses from the two vacuum switches ("A" and "B") and the hose between the intake manifold and metal "T" connector (Figure 1, Step 6). Install the new vacuum hoses using the original metal "T" connector.
7. Install harness connector "A" (originally located on strut tower) to the new harness connector bracket (on inner fender panel). Install the two vacuum switches to the new vacuum switch mounting bracket (Figure 2, Step 7). Reroute the vacuum hose if necessary.
8. Remove the two small diameter hoses and electrical connector from original VCM valve. Remove the three VCM bracket screws, invert the bracket and replace the VCM valve. Re-install the bracket and attach the two small diameter vacuum hoses (Figure 2, Step 8).
9. Install the new large hose to the large port of the new VCM air filter (Figure 2, Step 9).
10. Install the two hoses between the air filter and VCM valve as shown (Figure 2, Step 10). Note that one hose is 6.4 in (160 mm) long with an orifice. The other hose is 7.2 in (180 mm) long and has no orifice.
11. Install the new air filter in the bracket with the large hose pointing downward.
