Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
N (Neutral) range light

The N range light flashes at a frequency of approximately 1 Hz (once per second) if there is an abnormality in any of the items in the table which are related to the A/T system. Check for diagnostic trouble codes if the N range light is flashing at a frequency of approximately 1 Hz.

N range light flashing items

CAUTION: If the N range light is flashing at a frequency of approximately 2 Hz (two flashes per second), it means that the automatic transmission fluid temperature is too high. Stop the vehicle in a safe place and wait until the N range light switches off.

Method of reading diagnosis codes when using the scan tool
Connect the scan tool to the data link connector and take a reading of the diagnostic trouble codes.

CAUTION: Turn off the ignition switch before connecting or disconnecting the scan tool.

When using the warning lamp
1. Use the special tool to ground No.1 terminal (diagnosis control terminal) of the data link connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch on.
3. Read out a diagnostic trouble code by observing how the N range lamp flashes.
