Diagnostic By Diagnostic Test Mode II
When choosing Scan tool Mode II, at the time the PCM first detects the breakdown, and when the "service engine soon lamp" illuminates (only in the case of emission-associated breakdown), the corresponding Diagnostic Trouble Codes are memorized.
For Comprehensive Component Electrical Faults (Opens/Shorts), the time that elapses between the breakdown occurrence and DTC memorization is shortened (from four seconds to one second).
This enables a reduction of the work associated with confirming the breakdown status and confirming completion following repairs.
To return to the usual Mode I from Mode II selection, turn the ignition to the OFF position or reselect Scan tool Mode I.
When returning to Mode I, DTC, Readiness Test Status and Freeze Frame Data will be erased. Make note of these before returning to Mode I.
1. Using the scan tool, change over the diagnostic test mode of the powertrain control module to DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE II. (INCREASED SENSITIVITY)
2. Road test the vehicle.
3. Read the diagnostic trouble code in the same manner as "READ OUT OF DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE" and repair the malfunctioning part.
4. Turn off the ignition switch.
NOTE: Turning OFF the ignition switch will cause the powertrain control module to change over the PCM from the diagnostic test mode II to the diagnostic test mode I.
