BONDED PARTS REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONSIDE PROTECTOR MOLDING AND SIDE SILL SPLASH PROTECTOR
REMOVAL
1. Apply masking tape to the outside circumference of the side protector molding.
2. Insert fishing line [Dia 0.8 mm (.03 in.)] between the body and the side protector molding, and pull both ends alternately to cut the adhesive section and remove the side protector molding.
CAUTION:
1. When reusing the side protector molding, pull the fishing line along the edge of the body so as not to damage the edge of the side protector molding.
2. If the adhesive is difficult to remove, heat it to 40 degrees C (104 degrees F).
3. Scrape off the double-sided tape with a resin spatula.
4. Tear off the masking tape.
5. Scrape off a small amount of the adhesive with a cutter knife.
6. Wipe the body surface clean with a rag moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
INSTALLATION
1. If the molding or protector is to be re-used, scrape off the double-sided tape with a resin spatula or gasket scraper.
2. Wipe the molding adhesion surface clean with a rag moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
3. Remove a small portion of the residual adhesive.
CAUTION: Do not remove all of the residual adhesive.
4. Heat the adhesive surface of the double-sided tape on the side protector molding to about 40-60 degrees C (104-140 degrees F).
5. Affix the specified double-sided tape to the side protector molding and side sill splash protector.
Specified double-sided tape:
3M ATD Part No.6382 or equivalent
8 mm (.31 in.) wide and 0.8 mm (.012 in.) thick
6. Tear off the double-sided tape backing paper.
NOTE: If you attach the adhesive tape to the edge of the backing paper, it will be easy to tear off.
7. Attach the side protector molding or side sill splash protector.
NOTE: If the double-sided tape is difficult to affix during winter, etc., warm the bonding surfaces of the body and the molding or protector to about 40-60 degrees C (104-140 degrees F) before affixing the tape.
8. Firmly press on the molding or protector to attach it securely.
