Drive Belt Tension Check and AdjustmentPower Steering Oil Pump Drive Belt Tension Check And Adjustment
1. Check the drive belt tension by the following procedure.
Standard value:
Gently tap the middle of the belt between the pulleys (the place indicated by an arrow) with a finger as shown in the illustration. Check that the vibration frequency of the belt is within the standard value range.
NOTE: For details on the method of measuring the vibration frequency by using scan tool MB991502, refer to Drive Belt; Alternator; Testing and Inspection.
Use a belt tension gauge to check that the belt tension is within the standard value range.
Apply 98 N (22 lbs.) of force to the middle of the drive belt between the pulleys (at the place indicated by the arrow) and check that the amount of deflection is within the standard value range.
2. If the vibration frequency, tension or deflection is not within the standard value range, adjust by the following procedure.
1) Loosen the tensioner pulley fixing nut and bolt.
2) Adjust the belt tensioner using the adjusting bolt.
3) Tighten the fixing nut and bolt.
Tightening torque: 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.)
CAUTION: Check after turning the crankshaft clockwise once or more clockwise.
4) Check the belt deflection amount and tension, and readjust if necessary.
