Fuel Tank: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
- Check the hoses and the pipes for crack or damage.
- Check the fuel tank filler tube cap for malfunction.
- Check the fuel tank for deformation, corrosion or crack.
- Check the fuel tank for dust or foreign material.
NOTE: If the inside of the fuel tank is to be cleaned, use any one of the following:
(1) Kerosene
(2) Trichloroethylene
(3) A neutral emulsion type detergent
FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE ASSEMBLY CHECK
(1) Connect a clean rubber hose to port A of the fuel tank filler tube assembly.
(2) Blow air into the hose. Check that the air flows out of port B.
(3) Use a screwdriver or similar tool to close the valve, then blow air into the hose. Check that air does not flow out of port B.
FUEL TANK DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR CHECK
(1) Disconnect the fuel tank differential pressure sensor connector and connect the special tool between the terminals of the disconnected connector.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON and take a reading of the following output voltage.
Between terminals (2) and (3)
Standard value: 2.0 - 3.0 V
FUEL CUT OFF VALVE CHECK
If the sound of the float valve moving (knocking sound) can be heard when the valve assembly is gently shaken up and down, then the valve is okay.
