Component Tests and General Diagnostics

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE (A/T) CONTROL COMPONENT CHECK
1. Check crankshaft position sensor.
2. Check throttle position sensor.
3. Check oil temperature sensor.
a. Remove the oil temperature sensor.

b. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 1 and No. 2 of the oil temperature sensor connector.
Standard value:
Oil temperature at 0° C (32° F): Resistance 1.67 - 20.5 k ohms
Oil temperature at 100° C (212° F): Resistance 0.57 - 0.69 k ohms
c. Replace the sensor if not within the standard value.
4. Check park/neutral position switch.
5. Check stop light switch.
6. Check vehicle speed sensor.
7. Check dual pressure switch.
8. Check closed throttle position switch.
9. Check A/T control relay.
a. Remove the A/T control relay.

b. Use jumper wires to connect the A/T control relay terminal (2) to the battery (-) terminal and terminal (4) to the battery (+) terminal.
c. Check the continuity between the terminal (1) and the terminal (3) of the A/T control relay when the jumper wires are connected to and disconnected from the battery.
Jumper wire: Continuity between terminals No. 1 and No. 3
Connected: Continuity
Disconnected: No continuity
d. If there is a problem, replace the A/T control relay.
10. Check solenoid valve.
a. Remove the valve body cover.

b. Disconnect the connectors of each solenoid valve.

c. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of each solenoid valve.
Standard value (at 20° C (68° F)):
Torque converter clutch solenoid: 2.7 - 3.4 ohms resistance
Low and reverse solenoid valve: 2.7 - 3.4 ohms resistance
Second solenoid valve: 2.7 - 3.4 ohms resistance
Underdrive solenoid valve: 2.7 - 3.4 ohms resistance
Overdrive solenoid valve: 2.7 - 3.4 ohms resistance
d. If the resistance is not within the standard value, replace the solenoid valve.
