Brake Pad: Service and Repair
Remove Guide Pin:
1. Remove guide pin. Lift caliper assembly and slide the assembly toward the inside of the wheel well, then support it with wires.
NOTE: Do not wipe off the special grease that is on the guide pin or allow it to contaminate the lock pin.
Caliper Assembly:
2. Refer to the illustration and remove the following parts from the caliper support.
a. Remove guide pin (1).
b. Remove lock pin (2).
c. Remove bushing (3).
d. Remove caliper support (pad, clip and shim) (4).
e. Remove pad and wear indicator assembly (11).
f. Remove pad assembly (12).
g. Remove outer shim (stainless) (13).
h. Remove outer shim (coated with rubber) (14).
i. Remove inner shim (stainless) (15).
j. Remove inner shim (coated with rubber) (16).
k. Remove clip (16).
3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Clean piston and push into cylinder (caliper) with special tool No. MB990520.
Lubrication Points On Pad Assembly:
- Apply repair kit grease to the attaching faces of the inner and outer shims.
CAUTION:
- Do not deposit grease or other dirt on pad or brake disc friction surfaces.
- The grease should be applied so that it does not protrude from the shim surface.
- Be careful that the piston boot does not catch and tear as the caliper assembly and lock pin are installed.
