Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front Disc Brake Assembly:
CALIPER/DISC REMOVAL
- Drain brake fluid and remove or disconnect the following:
1. Connection for brake hose
2. Gasket
3. Front brake assembly
4. Brake disc
Caliper Assembly:
CALIPER DISASSEMBLY
- Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Guide pin
2. Lock pin
3. Bushing
4. Caliper support (pad, clip and shim)
5. Boot
6. Boot ring
7. Piston boot. Protect caliper body with cloth. Blow compressed air through brake hose to remove piston boot and piston.
CAUTION: Blow compressed air gently.
8. Piston
9. Remove piston seal with finger tip. Clean piston surface and inner cylinder with trichloro-ethylene, alcohol, or brake fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4.
CAUTION: Do not use a flat-tipped screwdriver or other tool to prevent damage to inner cylinder when removing piston seal.
10. Caliper body
Lubrication Points On Caliper Assembly:
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
- Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
1. Install the guide pin and lock pin as illustrated so that each head mark of the guide pin and the lock pin matches the indication mark located on the caliper body.
2. Ensure brake drag torque is within specifications. Testing and Inspection
