Ignition Lock Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove instrument panel side cover A, B.
2. Follow removal steps outlined in illustration.

CAUTION: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Be careful not to subject the Air Bag Control Unit (SRS-ECU) to any shocks during removal and installation of the key interlock cable and shift lock cable.

INSPECTION
Check the cable assemblies for function and for damage.

INSTALLATION
Installation in reverse order as removal.

NOTE: Installation service points as follows:

A. Shift lock cable installation. (16)

CAUTION: Do not change the routing of shift lock cable to the selector lever assembly.





B. Key interlock cable installation. (15)
Fix securely by the clip between the metals of the key interlock cable to the steering cover assembly.

CAUTION: Do not change the routing of key interlock cable to the selector lever assembly.





C. Shift lock cable (selector lever side) installation. (12)
1. Place the selector lever in position "P".
2. Fasten the shift lock cable at the position where the end of the shift lock cable is positioned above the red marking.





D. Key interlock cable (selector lever side) installation. (11)
1. Install the key interlock cable on the lock cam.
2. Install the spring and washer of the key interlock cable as shown.
3. While lightly pushing the cable coupling portion of the lock cam in the direction A, tighten the nut to fasten the key interlock cable.





E. Key interlock cable (steering lock cylinder side). (9)
1. Place the ignition key at the "LOCK" position or keep it removed.
2. Install the slide lever, key interlock cable, and cam lever to the steering lock assembly as shown.

NOTE: Operational steps after installation as follows:
- Install instrument panel side cover A, B.
