Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
1. Reduce fuel system pressure as outlined under Technician Safety Information, then drain engine coolant and oil into suitable containers.2. Remove air intake hose.

3. Remove cylinder head and gasket in numbered sequence shown, Fig. 4, noting following:
a. After timing belt upper cover is removed, rotate crankshaft in direction of normal rotation until timing marks align.
b. Remove camshaft sprocket using sprocket remover tool Nos. MB990767 and MD998719, or equivalents.

c. Remove cylinder head bolts in sequence shown, Fig. 5, in two or three steps.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Install new head gasket on block with "ICG" identification mark facing up.

b. Tighten cylinder head bolts to specifications in sequence shown in, Fig. 6, in two or three steps.
