A/C Temperature Control - Inoperative
NO. TSB-95-55-001DATE: May, 1995
MODEL: 1995 Mirage
SUBJECT:
TEMPERATURE CONTROL INOPERATIVE
PURPOSE
If the temperature control knob fails to operate on affected vehicles, the heater control lever requires replacement. This Technical Service Bulletin describes how to install a new, improved heater control lever on affected vehicles.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On some affected vehicles, the temperature control knob may fail to operate (rotates but does not change the air temperature). To eliminate this condition, install a new, improved heater control lever listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
1995 Mirage models produced before 1/23/95.
PROCEDURE
If the temperature control knob does not operate, install a new heater control
lever as follows:
1. Remove the heater control assembly from the vehicle.
2. Remove the temperature control cable from the control lever.
3. Rotate the temperature control knob to either the full cold or full hot position.
4. To remove the knob from the control assembly, use needle-nose pliers to compress the split end at the back of the knob, then pull the knob out.
Note
When removing knob, use care not to remove the detent ball and spring.
5. Remove the white plastic drive gear from the heater control assembly.
6. Rotate the white plastic control lever to clear it from the temperature control knob guide. Compress the split end of the control lever, then remove and discard the lever.
7. Install a new control lever, using parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. Align the control lever alignment notch with the temperature control knob shaft hole.
8. Reinstall the white plastic drive gear. The timing tooth on the drive gear should be facing the front of the control assembly, and aligned with the control lever alignment notch.
9. Reinstall the temperature control knob with the arrow in mid-range (between full cold and full hot).
10. Reinstall the temperature control cable to the control lever.
11. Reinstall the heater control assembly in the vehicle.
12. Verify that rotating the temperature control knob changes the temperature of the heater air.
