Campaign - A/T Oil Cooler Hose Replacement
NO.: SC-95-OO1DATE: January, 1995
MODEL: 1993-94 Mirage
SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT PURPOSE
On certain 1993 and 1994 Mirages with automatic transmission, the original transaxle oil cooler hoses must be replaced because they may leak transaxle fluid from where the clips are on the hoses. Oil cooler hoses of improved material are available in a replacement kit. All affected vehicle owners will be notified by a letter requesting them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealers for replacement of the oil cooler hose assembly. A sample owner notification letter appears in this bulletin.

This campaign applies to certain MMC-made 1993 and 1994 Mirages with 3 or 4-speed automatic transaxle.

PROCEDURE
REMOVAL OF HOSE ASSEMBLY
1. Open the hood and secure it with the hood support rod.
2. Remove the hose assembly clamp from the radiator fan support bracket.
WARNING:
If the transaxle fluid is hot, be careful to avoid bums during the following operations. Use shop rags and/or a drain pan to catch fluid.
3. Remove the two hose clips and hoses from the nipples at the transaxle.
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Remove the transaxle under cover.
6. Remove the two hose clips and hoses from the transaxle oil cooler nipples at the radiator.
7. Remove and discard the hose assembly, including all four clips.
INSTALLATION OF REPLACEMENT HOSE ASSEMBLY
1. Install the replacement hose assembly onto the transaxle oil cooler nipples at the radiator, pushing each hose at least 25 mm (1 in.) onto its nipple. Install new clips at least 5 mm (3/16 in.) from the ends of the hoses.
Note:
Before installing the replacement hoses onto the nipples, be sure the nipples are wiped clean of any fluid or debris.
2. Reinstall the transaxle under cover.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Install the replacement hose assembly onto the nipples at the transaxle, pushing the hoses at least 25 mm (1 in.) onto the nipples. Install new clips at least 5 mm (3/16 in.) from the ends of the hoses.
Note:
Before installing the replacement hoses onto the nipples, be sure the nipples are wiped clean of any fluid or debris.
5. Reattach the hose assembly clamp to the radiator fan support bracket. Make sure the hose routing does not interfere with the radiator fan blades and has enough slack to allow for typical transaxle movement.
6. With the vehicle on level flooring, start the engine, then move the gear selector lever to each gear position, ending in "N" (Neutral) position. Top off the transaxle with Mitsubishi DIAMOND ATF SF automatic transaxle fluid or equivalent until the fluid level reaches the "COLD" range on the dipstick.
7. Drive the vehicle until the fluid reaches operating temperature, 70-80°C (160-180°F).
8. With the vehicle on level flooring, check the transaxle fluid level. If necessary, add more ATF until the fluid level reaches the "HOT" range on the dipstick.
9. Check that there is no leakage of ATF around the hose connections at the radiator or the transaxle.
