REPLACEMENT OF POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On some 1994 Galants, customers may complain that the power door locks occasionally lock and unlock by themselves. This condition may be caused by a malfunction in the driver-side power door lock actuator. To correct the condition, a new actuator should be installed.
Since the part number for the old and new power door lock actuator was not changed, use the parts information in this bulletin to correctly identify the new actuator BEFORE replacing the old one. Replacement of the actuator should only be performed if a customer complaint is received on the condition.

DESCRIPTION
On affected vehicles, if a customer complains that the power door locks operate by themselves, replace the driver-side power door lock actuator. Refer to page 42-48 of the 1994-95 Galant Service Manual for replacement instructions.
Before replacing the power door lock actuator, be sure to obtain one with the correct lot number. The lot number is located on top of the actuator's housing, stamped into the plastic. Use the illustration, along with the parts information, for lot number identification.
PARTS INFORMATION
Before installing a new power door lock actuator, check its lot number. New actuators are stamped with a 4-digit lot number reading "3Y08" or higher. Here is how to decipher the lot number:
In the example "3Y08," "3" is the year (1993), "Y" is the month (November), and "08" is the day. Thus, parts manufactured on November 8, 1993 and later are new.
Parts manufactured January through September use a 1 through 9 numeric digit to indicate the month. Parts manufactured October through December use alpha digits X through Z to indicate the month. For example, in lot number 3108, "1" stands for January. In lot number 3X08, "X" stands for October.
