Seats - Front Track Adjustment
NO.: TSB-94-52A-002DATE: June, 1994
MODEL: 1994 Galant
SUBJECT:
FRONT SEAT TRACK ADJUSTMENT
PURPOSE
This bulletin explains how to adjust the front seat tracks on the 1994 Galant. The adjustment may be necessary if a customer complains that one or both of the front seats must be moved excessively side-to-side or back and forth to lock the seat(s) into position.
DESCRIPTION
To determine if the front seat tracks require adjustment on a 1994 Galant, slide the seat forward and backward, stopping in any convenient position. If both left and right seat tracks lock at the same time, no adjustment is needed. Also, a slight forward or backward seat movement to lock both tracks is considered normal.
If the seat must be moved excessively side-to-side or back and forth to lock both seat tracks, perform the following adjustment procedure to align the seat tracks.
1. Slide the seat forward and backward. Then, lock the seat in a forward position to gain access to the rear anchor bolts.
2. Remove the anchor bolt covers and anchor bolts from the rear seat tracks.
3. While standing outside the vehicle, slide the seat backward to gain access to the front anchor nuts.
4. Remove the front anchor nut covers and loosen the anchor nuts 2 turns.
5. Slide the seat to the full backward position, making sure both inboard and outboard seat tracks lock into position.
6. With both seat tracks locked into position, tighten the two front track anchor nuts 30 N-m (22 ft.lbs.). Reinstall the covers over the nuts.
7. Slide the seat to the full forward position, making sure both inboard and outboard seat tracks lock into position.
8. With both seat tracks locked into position, reinstall the rear anchor bolts, tightening them to 45 N-m (32 ft.lbs.). Reinstall the bolt covers.
9. Confirm that the seat slides smoothly in its tracks and locks into position normally. A slight forward or backward seat movement to lock both tracks is considered normal.
10. If needed, perform the adjustment procedure on the opposite seat.
NOTE:
If the adjustment procedure does not correct the seat track alignment, install a new seat track assembly. For seat track installation information, refer to Volume 1 of the 1994 Galant Service Manual, page 52A-18.
