Fig. 34 Crankshaft & Balance Shaft Sprocket Alignment:

1. Align crankshaft and balance shaft sprockets timing marks, Fig. 34, then install timing belt. There should be no slack.

Fig. 35 Tensioner Pulley Starting Position:

2. Temporarily install tensioner with pulley center to left and above installation bolt center and flange faces front of engine, Fig. 35.

Fig. 36 Balance Shaft Belt Adjustment:

3. Holding tensioner up, exert tension until tension side of belt is taut, then tighten tensioner bolt, Fig. 36. Do not allow tensioner pulley to rotate when tightening bolt.

Fig. 37 Balance Shaft Belt Tension Check:

4. Apply finger pressure to center of belt's tension side and measure deflection, Fig. 37. Deflection should be 0.20-0.28 inch.

Fig. 38 Crankshaft Flange Installation:

5. Install crankshaft flange, Fig. 38, then install crankshaft sprocket and pulley, and tighten crankshaft bolt to specifications.
