Installation

1. Bleed auto-lash adjuster as follows:
a. Immerse lash adjuster in clean diesel fuel.
b. While lightly pushing down inner steel ball with a small wire, move plunger up and down several times to bleed air.
c. Remove small wire and press plunger. If plunger is hard to depress, lash adjuster is operating normal, proceed to Step e.
d. If plunger can be easily depressed, repeat Steps a through c. If plunger is still loose, replace lash adjuster.
e. After bleeding hold adjuster upright to prevent diesel fuel from spilling out, set lash adjuster on leak down tester, tool No. MD998440, or equivalent.
f. After plunger has depressed 0.008-0.020 inch, measure time taken for plunger to drop an additional 0.04 inch. If plunger drops 0.04 inch in 4-20 seconds, lash adjuster is operating correctly.
