SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN (MIRAGE)
IMPORTANT:
On certain affected units, this Safety Recall Bulletin should be performed in conjunction with related Safety Recall Bulletin SR-97-003, AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT GUIDE RAIL SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN. Check the AFFECTED VEHICLES section of both bulletins and the WARRANTY SUPER SCREEN before proceeding.
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1993 Mirage models to replace the driver's and passenger's side automatic shoulder belt door latch switches. Vehicles built between April 1, 1992 and November 20, 1992 may have automatic shoulder belt door latch switches which can malfunction. If either of these switches malfunction, the corresponding automatic shoulder belt will not move along its path above the door and lock into position when the door is closed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
The automatic shoulder belt may not move from the A-Pillar into its normal operational position at the rear of the front door.
Cause
The automatic shoulder belt switch which is mounted on the front door latch may malfunction.
Remedy
On all affected vehicles, both front door latches must be removed, the latch lot number checked and, if in the affected range, the door latch switch replaced with the door latch switch kit described in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
MMSA will send a letter to all owners of affected vehicles instructing them to call return their vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer to have this campaign procedure performed at no charge. A copy of the letter is shown.

PARTS INFORMATION
A small supply of the switch kit will be allocated to dealers who received affected vehicles. Additional orders can be placed through the normal parts ordering system if the initial allocation is insufficient for your dealership.
