TRANSFER IDLER SHAFT SEALS
PURPOSE
This bulletin is issued to inform service technicians of different (early vs late production) transfer idler shaft seals used in 1993 Mirage F3A21 and F3A22 (3-speed) automatic transaxles. Early production 1993 Mirage vehicles (manufactured through August 1992) use a "D-Ring" to seal the transfer idler shaft. Later production vehicles (manufactured after August 1992) use an "O-Ring" to seal the transfer shaft.
The seals are not interchangeable. Shafts designed to use a D-ring have a "narrow" groove, whereas shafts designed for an O-ring use a "wide" groove (see illustration).
Use an O-Ring for "wide" groove.
Use a D-Ring in a "narrow" groove.
Note:
The wide groove is over twice the width of a narrow groove.
