Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair

1. Disable airbag system as describer under Technician Safety Information.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Cut attaching bolts at steering lock bracket side using a suitable hacksaw, then remove bolts, Fig. 3.
4. Remove ignition switch electrical connectors, then the lock assembly.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Temporarily install ignition lock in alignment with column boss and check for proper switch operation.
b. Steering lock bracket should be replaced when installing new ignition switch.
c. Install special ignition lock attaching bolts and tighten until heads twist off.
