Electronic Component Precautions

When Servicing Electronic Components Observe The Following Precautions:

Access trouble codes and record radio presets before disconnecting battery. Memory will be erased when ground is removed.

Disconnect negative battery cable before servicing electronic components.

Route all engine control system wiring at least 4 inches away from ignition wires, to control induced noise.

Do not try to disassemble any electronic control module.

Before performing electrical welding (for instance, spot welding), disconnect the battery, radio and all electronic control modules.

If temperatures will exceed 176°F (80°C), (example: infra-red spray booth), remove all control modules.

Avoid getting water on any electronic components.

Never apply battery power to a component unless directed to do so in a test procedure.

Fully release connector locks prior to disconnecting.
Be sure connector insulators and shields are in place and connectors are fully seated BEFORE starting engine.
