1. Release fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Mark hood hinge bolt location on hood then remove hood.
4. Drain cooling system into an approved container.
5. Remove transaxle assembly as outlined under TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVE SHAFTS/MANUAL TRANSAXLE/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/TRANSAXLE for models with manual transaxles or TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVE SHAFTS/AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/TRANSAXLE for models with automatic transaxles.
6. Remove radiator assembly.
7. Remove engine assembly in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 1, noting the following:
a. Remove power steering pump leaving hoses attached, then support out of the way.
b. Remove air conditioner compressor leaving hoses attached, then support out of the way.
c. Support engine using a suitable jack stand.
d. Remove engine hanger tool used when transaxle was removed.
e. Support engine using a chain and suitable engine lifting device.
f. Raise engine slightly to remove weight off mounts then remove engine mounts.
g. Ensure all electrical and hose connections are disconnected then raise engine assembly out of the vehicle.
h. Always insert a piece of wood between the engine hanger assembly and the front deck. Also, do not pinch hood weatherstrip between front deck and the piece of wood.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Using a floor jack and a piece of wood, support the engine on the oil pan then install engine mount bracket while adjusting the position of the engine.
b. Remove engine lifting device as allow engine hanger tool to support engine until transaxle is installed.
