Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Thermo SensorsFig. 21 Testing Double Terminal Thermo Sensors:
1. Drain cooling system, then remove thermo sensors from radiator.
2. Submerge sensor end of thermo sensor as shown in Fig. 21.
3. Connect ohmmeter across thermo sensor terminals.
4. Continuity should exist at approximately 187-190°F, and there should be no continuity at 171°F or less.
Radiator Fan Motor
Fig. 30 Radiator Fan Motor Terminal Identification. Eclipse & Exop:
1. Disconnect fan motor connection.
2. Connect battery to terminals as shown in Fig. 30. Motor should operate smoothly.
Radiator Fan Relay Check
Fig. 37 Radiator Fan Relay Terminal Identification. Expo:
1. With radiator fan relays disconnected, use suitable ohmmeter to check for continuity between terminals 4 and 5 Fig. 37, when battery positive is applied between terminals 1 and 3, continuity should exist.
2. Remove battery voltage from relay and check for continuity between terminals 1 and 3, continuity should exist, then check between terminals 4 and 5, continuity should not exist.
Condenser Fan Motor Check
Fig. 39 Condenser Fan Relay Check. Expo:
Test condenser fan motor relay as shown in Fig. 39.
Condenser Fan Motor Relay HI/LO
Fig. 38 Condenser Fan Motor Terminal Identification. Expo:
1. Disconnect condenser fan motor connection.
2. Connect battery positive to terminal 3 and battery ground to terminal 1, Fig. 38. Motor should operate smoothly.
