NO. TSB-91-42A-003
DATE June, 1991
MODEL Diamante
SUBJECT:
DIFFICULT TRUNK OPENING/CLOSING
This bulletin replaces ATIN-42A-001, dated 6-14-91.
PURPOSE
If you should encounter a Diamante with a trunk lid which is difficult to open or close, two types of adjustments are available to correct the condition. First, the trunk lid bumpers can be adjusted and then if necessary, the trunk lid striker. During Pre-Delivery Inspection, the trunk opening/closing effort should be checked and adjusted, if necessary, before delivery to the customer.
DESCRIPTION
Trunk adjustments should be made when one or more of the following conditions are present:
1. When opening with the key, it is necessary to push the trunk lid down.
2. It is very difficult to release the trunk lid when using the interior trunk release mechanism.
3. When closing, substantial effort is needed to latch the trunk lid.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Standard warranty procedures apply.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES
To adjust the trunk opening/closing effort, it may be necessary to adjust the trunk lid bumper or striker alone, or both the trunk lid bumper and the striker. In some cases, only one adjustment is necessary.
NOTE:
When adjusting the trunk lid bumper or the striker, careful attention must be made to the trunk fit/alignment. Both the right and left sides of the trunk lid must match up with the rear quarter panels.
Refer to Figure 2 for the locations of the trunk lid bumper and the striker.
1. Open the trunk. By hand, turn both the right and left side trunk lid bumpers in (clockwise) approximately 1/4 turn.
NOTE:
In some cases it may be necessary to pre-adjust the height of the trunk lid bumper to 15 mm. Close the trunk. Carefully check the trunk to fender fit/alignment on both sides.
A. If either side of the trunk lid is too low, the trunk lid bumper(s) must be turned out slightly.
B. If either side of the trunk lid is too high, the trunk lid bumper must be turned in slightly.
NOTE:
Step 1 may have to be repeated to achieve the proper fit/alignment adjustment. If the condition still exists, proceed to step 2.
2. Use a pencil to mark the current location of the striker.
NOTE:
When the striker mounting bolts are loosened, the striker can easily move. Marking the original location will supply you with a reference.
A. Move the striker up approximately 2 mm. Tighten the striker mounting bolts. Close the trunk and check the fit/alignment. Repeat as necessary.
