Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Remove steering wheel as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
3. Removing upper and lower steering column covers.
4. Remove column switch as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/COLUMN SWITCH.
5. Remove key interlock cover and cable.
6. Remove slide lever, Fig. 1.
7. Remove steering lock by cutting special bolts using a suitable hacksaw, Fig. 2.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Temporarily install steering column lock using new special bolts and ensure proper operation.
b. Tighten special bolts until heads twist off.
c. Ensure proper operation of airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
