EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation
EGR Solenoid:
LOCATION
The EGR control valve is located on the firewall.
PURPOSE
The EGR control valve regulates the amount of vacuum supplied to the EGR valve.
OPERATION
The EGR control solenoid is a duty-cycle type solenoid. It has a valve that opens and closes the vacuum source line to atmosphere many times per second. This allows only a certain amount of ported vacuum to be applied to the EGR valve, thereby controlling the amount of EGR operation. The ECM opens and closes the relay ground circuit and the Multiport Fuel Injection Control (MFI) relay supplies battery voltage.
