Data Link Connector: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

Path for scan tool access to Engine Control Module (ECM) inputs and memory.

- Sensor input values
- Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) stored in memory.

Path for scan tool actuation of most ECM output devices.

NOTE: Monitoring inputs, reading other memory and actuating output devices can only be accomplished through the use of a scan tool. SEE DIAGNOSIS, TESTING AND INSPECTION.
