Alignment - Steering Drift Condition

NO. TSB-91-33A-001
DATE June, 1991
MODEL Diamante
SUBJECT: STEERING DRIFT
PURPOSE
Some 1992 Diamante vehicles may exhibit a mild drifting condition to either the right or left while cruising on a level (uncambered) road surface. Drifting is defined as: a tendency of a vehicle to pull slightly to one side or the other when the driver is driving straight.
NOTE: There will always be a tendency to pull on a slanted or crowned road. A Diamante should be checked for a steering drift condition during PDI and corrected before delivery to the customer.
This bulletin describes the steps to be taken if you encounter this condition.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Normal warranty procedures and coverage apply. If repairs or adjustments are necessary, submit a separate "W" warranty claim. If a 4-wheel alignment is performed, you must provide the before and after readings.
REPAIR STEPS
1. Check tire pressures. Front: 32 PSI, Rear: 26 PSI. Proper tire pressure is CRITICAL to proper vehicle handling. Road test the vehicle to see if the condition is corrected.
2. If the condition is not corrected, cross-switch the front left and right tires. Torque the lug nuts to 90-110 N-m (65-79 ft.lbs.) Road test the vehicle to check if the condition is corrected.
3. In most cases, inflating the tires properly and/or cross-switching the front tires will correct the drifting condition. If not, a 4-wheel alignment may be needed.
