1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain transmission fluid.
3. Remove engine undercover.
4. Remove battery and battery tray then the washer tank.
5. Remove air cleaner cover and air intake hose.
6. Remove clutch release cylinder and oil line bracket with out disconnecting the oil coupling, then secure to body using suitable wire.
7. Disconnect transaxle control and speedometer cables.
8. Raise transaxle to release pressure on transaxle mount bracket using suitable jack stand then disconnect transaxle mount.
9. Remove transaxle mounting stopper, Fig. 1.
10. Loosen tie rod end nut then disconnect tie rod from knuckle using steering linkage puller tool No. MB991113-01 or equivalent. Ensure that tie cord of tool is tied off correctly.
11. Repeat step 11 on lower ball joint.
12. With transaxle properly supported, remove righthand crossmember.
13. Remove starter electrical connections then remove starter assembly.
14. Reverse to install, noting the following:
a. Install mounting stopper as shown in Fig. 2.
b. Torque starter bolts to 65 ft. lbs.
c. Torque righthand crossmember bolts to 43-51 ft. lbs.
d. Torque lower ball joint nut to 43-52 ft. lbs. and tie rod end nut to 22 ft. lbs.
e. Torque transaxle mount bracket bolts to 51 ft. lbs.
g. Torque clutch tube bracket bolts to 13 ft. lbs.
