Fig. 2 Measuring Hub And Brake Drag Torque:
1. Loosen parking brake cable from interior end of cable and disconnect parking brake cable from rear brake caliper assembly.
2. Remove lower lockpin. Lift caliper assembly and support with suitable wire. Do not smear special grease on lockpin or make it dirty.
3. Remove outer shim, pad assembly, pad clip and inner shims, Figs. 4 and 5.
4. Measure rotating torque of hub with brake pads removed using a suitable spring scale, Fig. 2. On models with viscous coupling unit (VCU) equipped limited slip differential (LSD), disengage the driveshaft and companion flange.
5. Clean piston surface and push into caliper using suitable tool. Ensure that piston boot does not become wedged.
6. Attach pad clip and pads to caliper support.
7. Check brake drag as follows:
a. Start engine and hold brake pedal down for 5 seconds.
b. Stop engine and turn brake rotor forward 10 turns.
c. Check brake drag using suitable tool.
d. If the difference between brake drag torque and hub torque exceeds 3 ft. lbs., disassemble caliper assembly, clean and check for corrosion, worn or damaged parts.
