REVISED TORQUE PROCEDURE FOR CONNECTING ROD BOLTS

PURPOSE
This Technical Service Bulletin revises the torque procedure for 12 mm connecting rod bolts used on the 1989-91 Mirage equipped with the 1.5L engine. As a reference to this bulletin, write the TSB Number in the revision boxes on the affected pages in each service manual.
NOTE:
In addition to the service manual revisions, the revised torque procedure explained in this bulletin supersedes the torque procedure shown in Technical Service Bulletin, Number TSB-90-11-003-REVISION (1989 MIRAGE 1.5.L. CONNECTING ROD CHANGE).

DESCRIPTION
The torque procedure for 12 mm connecting rod bolts used on the 1.5L Mirage engine (1989-91) has been revised. The revised torque procedure is based on the following steps:
1. Oil the threads of each connecting rod bolt.
2. Install the nuts on each bolt and tighten by hand.
3. Torque each bolt alternately to 20 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) to seat each connecting rod bearing cap.
4. Tighten each nut an additional 1/4 turn.
This revised procedure supersedes all previous connecting rod bolt torque procedures used on the 1989-91 Mirage. Please revise the service manual pages and technical service bulletin pages as shown in the remainder of this bulletin.
NOTE:
The torque procedure used for the l4mm connecting rod cap bolts on the 1989 Mirage 1.5L engine (vehicles produced before August 1988) has not changed. This torque procedure can be found in the 1989 Mirage Service Manual, Volume 1, Section 9.
