PURPOSE

This bulletin is to inform you of improvements made to minimize whining noise from the automatic transaxle on the 1989 Galant.

CONDITION

A whining noise may be heard from the automatic transaxle at speeds of 60 mph or above. The source of the noise could be the normal operating sound of the planetary gears inside the transaxle being transmitted to the vehicle interior.
DETAILS OF CHANGE In order to insulate the vehicle interior from the whining noise, the following shifter modifications have been incorporated into production.*

Beginning November, 1988 the shift cable bracket insulator on the transaxle is made of softer rubber. See figure.

Beginning December, 1988 the shift cable had a 200 gram weight added at the shifter end. See figure.

*Installation of these modified parts may help alleviate customer complaints on older vehicles.
