DOHC ENGINE TIMING BELT COVER CHANGE
PURPOSE
The timing belt upper and lower covers used on the 1989 Mirage and Galant DOHC engine have been changed. A new material is now used, and at the same time, an improved attachment has been incorporated into the design of the lower cover. This bulletin describes the change, which became effective in June 1988.
DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE
The mounting boss and insert in the lower cover have been revised in design. This requires a longer attaching bolt. Therefore, when replacing an early lower cover with a later one, a longer bolt will be required. Otherwise the covers are interchangeable.
The new cover requires an M6 X 25 bolt which is 7 mm longer than the earlier one.
Differences between the earlier and later lower covers are shown in Figure 1.
