PURPOSE
This bulletin describes the changes made to the counter gear lock nut, counter shaft gear cluster and KM145 transfer case adaptor of the KM132 and KM145 manual transmissions used in Truck, Montero and Starion vehicles (Figure 1). These changes were made to assure constant torque on the counter gear lock nut.
If you have a vehicle with a lock nut that will not stay tight, replace the counter shaft lock nut, counter shaft gear cluster and transfer case adaptor (KM145 only) with the new components described in this bulletin.
EFFECTIVE PRODUCTION DATE AND TRANSMISSION SERIAL NUMBER
The new counter shaft components have been added to vehicles beginning with the following date and transmission serial number.
Production Date: From September, 1987 T/M Serial Number: From DM9593
PARTS INFORMATION
The part numbers for the following modified components can be found in the current parts microfiche. If a new component is used in a vehicle built before September, 1987, the following components must be replaced as a set.

Counter Shaft Gear
Cluster Transfer Case Adaptor (KM145 Only)

Counter Gear Lock Nut
The dimensions of the counter gear lock nut have been changed as shown in Figure 2 below. Please note that the tightening torque of the lock nut has not changed.

Counter Shaft Gear Cluster
The threaded end of the counter shaft gear cluster has been made longer as shown in Figure 3 below.

Transfer Case Adaptor (KM145 Only)
Because the overall length of the counter shaft has been increased, the shape inside the transfer case adaptor of the KM145 transmission has been changed in order to clear the counter shaft as shown in Figure 4 below.
