EMISSION RECALL


PURPOSE

This bulletin provides a detailed procedure for inspection and repair of the emission control system on certain 1987, 1988, and 1989 2.6L turbocharged California Emission Specification Starion models. A letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles telling them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the engine serviced. A copy of this letter is shown in this bulletin.

Please note that the customer is not to be charged for the repairs covered by this bulletin. To achieve the desired results, the procedure described in this bulletin MUST be followed EXACTLY to ensure that all items are completed.


IMPORTANT NOTICE

All dealerships MUST perform all steps as described in this bulletin including checking for previous recall completion. Incomplete repairs will lead to emissions non-compliance and obvious customer dissatisfaction. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) may survey the results of this campaign several months after starting. If incomplete repairs or non-compliance is found, another recall could be ordered or other action undertaken by CARB. In addition, Califomia residents who own an affected vehicle may be required to send in a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) as evidence of recall completion when they apply for vehicle registration renewal Each customer MUST be given a completed Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form after the recall has been completed


AFFECTED VEHICLES

This procedure applies to 1987, 1988, and 1989 2.6L turbocharged California Emission Specification Starion models with manual or automatic transmission without limitation as to mileage. It does not apply to any other models.
