EGR Valve

Fig. 74 Testing EGR valve:





1. Remove the EGR valve and check it for sticking, and excess carbon deposits. If necessry clean the valve with a suitable solvent.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (green stripe) from the mixing body and connect a hand vacuum pump the vacuum hose.
3. Connect a hand vacuum pump to one port of the EGR valve and plug the other port, Fig. 74.
4. Apply 67 kPa (20 in. Hg) and verify that the diaphragm chamber does not leak.
5. Apply 8 kPa (3 in. Hg) and verify that air does not pass through the EGR valve.
6. Apply 23 kPa (6 in. Hg) and verify that air does pass through the EGR valve.
7. When reinstalling the EGR replace the gasket and tighten to 7-11 Nm (5 to 8 ft. lbs.).
